Only since December 2013 has the Croatian guild of agricultural journalists DANH been recognised as a member guild by ENAJ and today the guild is as active as if it had been there for 50 years. On November 15th the guild held its national general assembly in Orahovica in Slavonia and it was a perfect event. Tatjana Cop and Jef Verhaeren were invited to represent ENAJ, and as president Markus Rediger of IFAJ couldn’t be present we also presented IFAJ. Some 40 members participated at the general assembly where Martin Vukovic was reelected as president and Goran Beinrauch was elected as secretary.
But the guild organised more than a good assembly meeting. The same day the members could visit PP Oharovica, an agro company which has more than 10,750 ha of land and employs more than 300 people. We learned to know the wine production and tasted the wines. Other activities are different crops, cattle breeding, fruit production and fishery in 3,348 ha of lakes. We could see the aquaculture exploitation and we consumed the fish on a nice dinner, with folk music and initiated with a medieval show. This DANH day was really well organised and the enthusiasm of the members was of the same level.
The day before I had the opportunity to visit with Martin Vukovic the labs of Croatiakontrola in Zagreb. On Monday we (Martin, Tatjana, Ana Rogac and me) made a beautiful trip to Istria where we visited Ipsa (ecological olive oil and wine production), the large agro company AgroLaguna (wine, olive oil and cheese production) and an artisanal cheese producer. Together with the contact with many enthusiastic Croatian colleagues was it a surprising experience.
